Petersfield III 48 - Romsey II 0
Sat, 20 Nov 2004
This weekend saw Romsey against Petersfield 3's away at Petersfield, though due to the weather it felt more like the north pole). Due to a problem with trains and timetables the official turned up 1/2 and hour late though thanks are due to the Petersfield player who reffereed the game for the first 15 minutes.
Despite ferocious tackling by Romsey Petersfield 3's took no time at all in showing how good and well drilled they were showing interplay that Romsey 2's could, on that day, only dream of.
Despite some good drives and rucking up the pitch Romsey failed to score in the first half, and despite the steady rate of tries by Petersfield, the Romsey back 3 of Jeremy Feeham, Drew Prince and Bill Nye put in cover tackle after cover tackle to desperately defend the overlaps.
Sturdy second row Andrew Mott was enveloping opposition players when ever available and despite a heavy knock to the ribs carried on providing a shining example of how not to give up.
With the snow coming down in the second half flyhalf Paul Goodyear took off up the pitch leaving all the Petersfield players standing and Romsey cheering him on from a sadly stationary position. However Goodyear was chased down and tackled 5 meters short of the line.
All in all Romsey showed great spirit in the face of an excellent opposition and horrible conditions. Next week see's Romsey take on Paxton Puma's away.
Next Fixtures: Sat 21st Apr 3pm kick-off
